March 3rd 2013 marks the 174th Derby between Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and the team that play in red (Here on referred to as TTTPIR).
For those not familiar with the history of the North London derby it is arguable that it is one of the most fiercely contested football rivalries there is. The first such derby between the mighty Spurs and TTTPIR, of Plumsted then, was contested back in 1909 but being so long ago I won’t mention the result as it’s not important. Aside from this the rivalry did not fully take hold until 1913 when TTTPIR moved from their home, how hard is it to tow a caravan?, in Plumsted and took residence in North London not four miles from White Hart Lane, the home of Tottenham Hotspur.
That rivalry has escalated to the point that too many supporters, myself included, this is the most important game of the season. In recent years it is fair to say that TTTPIR have had the majority of success in the Derby, be it with the aid of poor referee judgement or sheer luck, but the tide has been turning and Tottenham have been producing some of the best football we have seen from them in a long time and fans expectations have grown with each derby.
To cross sides by players or managers is not unheard of but it is never accepted by the supporters. But come Sunday there will be no crossing sides. Come kick off time on Sunday the fans, the managers, the players will all have chosen the side they stand for. So lets hope for a great match, as is usual for the derby game, and I for one will be supporting the same side as I do every time.
If you have not guessed by the way this article is written I am a life long Spurs supporter. I may write this with a hint of sarcasm but my support for Tottenham is true. I look forward to the tirade of abuse from TTTPIR supporters. COYS
